Subject: This morning’s Bernie Awards
I just wanted to take a moment to sincerely thank all of you for attending the 2021 Bernie Awards this morning.
Obviously, this year’s Bernies were a little different from previous editions, with the vast majority of you tuning in online. However, even with the limitations of Zoom, I think we could all sense the passion, pride and strong tradition of teamwork that make our company such a special and dynamic place to work.
As you know, the Bernie Awards are named for Bernard S. Simperman, who founded this company during the recessionary days of the late 1970s. Though I never had the honor of meeting Mr. Simperman myself, we all know he was a very driven person who demanded excellence, persistence and Always Putting The Customer First (“APTCF”). His untimely death in a tragic hunting accident in Kenya does not mitigate the lasting imprint he has left on our company’s culture to this day. The African elephant that bore down on Bernie on that awful day at the Masai Mara Reserve could not stamp out the spirit of hard work, enthusiasm and collaboration that gives all of us a sense of purpose at Simperman Software Systems Inc.
I know he’d be proud of all of you whose names were called out this morning as Bernie Award winners. I recognized many of you as repeat Bernie winners from earlier years (Karen Hopson in Accounts Receivable, I’m looking at you!), but I am sure that receiving our company’s highest honor never gets old. I’m extremely humbled to work with all of you, and my only regret is not being able to shake hands today as, normally, you would walk to the front of Conference Room C to accept your trophies and Simperman Software lapel pins. You are all rock stars in my book, and I am your biggest fan.
For those of you who did not receive a Bernie Award during today’s celebration, you’ll get an email invitation later today from Human Resources to go over the details of your separation packages. Please do not be late for your appointment and I wish you well in your next career move.
